A few pics around the aircraft production facility and random family pictures over the years (still adding pictures)
The Aircraft Production Facility...In 2003 I was flying combat missions over Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. When I wasn't flying, I sketched out plans for a workshop for building my own aircraft. Shortly after my return, my kids and I grabbed shovels and headed into the back yard where we broke ground next to our pool. Over the next two years, working when we could and with a lot of help from my good friend Mike Owens, we completed what we affectionately refer to as my Aircraft Production Facility. In 2007 I started working on my RV-8 aircraft project, however after the empennage was completed, I switched my efforts to a Pietenpol, which I have been working on ever since. Why the switch? Well, first the RV cost much more (with three kids going into college), however, more importanly, once I started the Pietenpol from plans, I realized I enjoyed the wood and fabric building process and interpreting plans, much more then the kit building process. To each their own, and I consider the Piet a great airplane for me to "cut my teeth" on. Of course the shop has also been known to host a party or two full of kids from high school and/or college. Below I've added some pictures from around the work shop in the early years of Maryland. I've started to add pictures of the family activities throughout the years. (More in progress).
